Michael's friend, Helene, comments on the 2009 calendar:
"There could be no better way to remember the words of
wisdom we've all heard from time-to-time than with Michael's beautiful coloured-pencil
drawings As well as capturing their characters, Michael has created
stunning backgrounds for all the bears and the attention he has paid to detail
is incredible. But as he knows, 'If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing
well...' and that is what Michael always achieves with his artwork."
Michael hopes you can recognise all the proverbs:

Scruff needs a healthy
breakfast when he wakes; toast with honey and a bowl of Kellogg’s cornflakes.
He believes that early to
bed, early to rise, makes a bear healthy, wealth and wise..

by its cover, whether history, literature or any other...
On the surface they may not
look inviting, but their contents can be so exciting...

of the land; his carrots and marrows all look so grand.
Cabbages and cauliflowers are
lined up there. Of all his produce he takes great care.

course, that words can have more power than force.
He needs peace and quiet to
compose – writing tinged with purple prose...

more, Tristrum has sailed to many a shore...
When in gales and storms
he’s caught, he’s pleased to anchor in any port!

Life is just a bowl of
cherries, so they say – so make the most of every day.
When chances come you should
try – to never let them pass you by...

Dinah’s basket is very
small and the eggs, being big, look sure to fall,
But as she’s wise and fears
they’ll roll, she’s going to put them in a bowl.

Scruff and Augustus have had
a fight, neither one’s wrong and neither one’s right.
When their hurt pride and
tempers mend, they’ll be happy to call each other ‘friend’.

The clouds billow about like
a scarlet tide, above shepherd and sheep on the hillside.
A red sky at night, so they
say, means tomorrow will be a beautiful day...
