Michael Quinlyn-Nixon was born in Blackhill, near Consett in County Durham, Great Britain.
As a child, Michael was always interested in drawing and would often sit for hours with pen, pencil and paper. After leaving Tanfield Comprehensive School in Stanley, Michael went to Derwentside College in Consett, New College, Durham and Cumbria Institute of the Arts, Carlisle, to study graphic design. Michael has had many successful exhibitions throughout the country, which have reflected his love of wildlife and natural history. His first exhibition was at Washington Wildfowl Park in 1988.
His work often depicts British wildlife, including red squirrels, one of his favourite species of animals. Michael's other passions are ducks, swans, owls and giraffes (not forgetting the ladybirds of course)! His calendars, featuring twelve teddy bear illustrations show Michael's interest in natural history. Each drawing takes approximately five to six weeks to complete and they are created with colour pencils, watercolour paints and a great deal of patience!
I hope that you will enjoy Michael's beautiful illustrations as much as I do.
