'The Harvesters'

Some of the imagery in this illustration was photographed during a particularly nice drive to the countryside on the outskirts of Durham City, with my parents and youngest sister, Sarah.  I have always had a great sense of pleasure at seeing a cornfield, which is littered with the bright scarlet shades of poppies and this is one the reasons I drew this illustration.

'The Gatherer'

One of my favourite animals is a red squirrel.  I enjoy watching the way that they move amongst the branches of trees, as well as the inquisitive way they gaze down at all passers-by from the safety of their tree-top homes.

'Hoglets'

Hedgehogs are private little creatures which have been surrounded by myth and superstition for centuries. This pair of very young hedgehogs (hoglets) are exploring their new world for the first time.

One of the hoglets in this illustration reminds me of an inquisitive character who visits my garden on warm summer evenings

'Amongst the Violets'

This illustration shows young Hedley Hedgehog sitting amongst a group of scented violets.  Hedley likes nothing better than fragrant flowers - as do a couple of scarlet ladybirds.  They have all gathered to enjoy some of the first spring flowers in the woodland glade.

Scarlet Battalions

I enjoy drawing poppies, I find their colour and brilliance dazzling.  It amazes me that this plant which has such delicate petals and stems can possess such strong colours and resilience.  The imagery which was used for this illustration was taken near my parental home in Tanfield Lea, County Durham.
